Obituary of Betty M. Snyder
Betty M. Snyder of Bay City, MI passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, in Sarasota, FL surrounded by family, and bouquets with her favorite yellow roses. She was 97 years young. Elizabeth "Betty" M. Pomerville was born on October 23, 1926 to the late Frank and Grace (Matthews) Pomerville. She married Frank V. (Bud) Snyder on Sept. 1, 1951 and was his loving companion for over 61 years. He predeceased her on April 23, 2013.
Betty graduated from Ss. Peter and Paul High School in Saginaw, MI. She enjoyed working as a secretary for many years at Webber Elementary and Saginaw High School. Frank and Betty moved to Decatur, AL. in 1978 where they became very active at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She was a member of Germania Club, a cherished birthday group, and longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas and St. John Vianney Catholic Churches. Betty loved gardening and over the years won recognition for her beautiful yards and also the grounds for St. Ann’s where she volunteered. In addition, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, snow birding in Florida, reading, watching old movies and reminiscing about her life and the “good ‘ole days”. She always looked her best and took great pride in the fact she enjoyed good health and a sharp mind until her passing at age 97. Betty made conversations with strangers wherever she went, quite often turning many of those “strangers” into lifelong friends.
Surviving are her two daughters, Karen (David) Malott of St. Charles and Sheri (Randy) Keene of Gladwin; five grandchildren: Lindsay Malott, Saginaw; Morgan Malott (Niv) Goldman, Alameda, CA; Coral (Nick) Lynch, Virginia Beach, VA; Casey (Marcia Zeiss) Keene, Midland, MI; Carson (Chihiro) Keene, Ann Arbor, MI; and two great-grandchildren Nio Keene and Simone Malott Goldman. She will be affectionately remembered as “Aunt Betty” by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2013, her son David F. Snyder in 2007, and four brothers and sisters; Donald, Frank, Eva (Horn) and Grace (Letherer).
A special acknowledgement to her many friends and neighbors for their friendship, help and support, especially Joe Martin. Per Bettys wishes her body has been donated to University of Florida, Orlando for medical research. Betty loved flowers and would be honored if you bought yourself a bouquet to enjoy in her memory. Those wishing to make a donation are asked to consider Save Our Shoreline, PO Box 2307, Bay City, MI 48707; St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital (stjude.org) or the American Heart Association (heart.org).
