Charles C. “Chuck” Beck

Saginaw, Michigan

Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 91 years old. Charles C. Beck was born on November 24, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Charles P. and Eva (Marienfeld) Beck. He married the love of his life Betty Louise Thiel on August 2, 1952 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw. Chuck proudly served his country as an EM3 with the United States Navy on the USS Bushnell AS-15 from August 16, 1951 until August 6, 1953. During his service with the Navy, he was trained as an Electrician. Following his honorable service with the Navy, he owned and operated Chuck Beck Electric for many years. Chuck was a member of St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephens Catholic Church. He had a passion for serving others. Chuck and Betty often cared for orphans at St. Vincent Home and helped with the needs of residents at St. Francis Home. Paired with his “fix it” attitude, Chuck spent countless hours repairing and refurbishing bicycles to donate to Saginaw community members. He enjoyed gardening, and he shared his vegetables with family, neighbors and Hidden Harvest. During his retirement years, Chuck volunteered at the VA Hospital as a driver, taking Veterans for medical appointments in Ann Arbor, and he was recognized for volunteering over 5000 hours. In addition to his generosity, Chuck had a great sense of humor - often sharing jokes and stories. His smile and laugh could light up a room.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Louise Beck; children, Bev (Bruce) Braun, Michael (Colleen) Beck, and Renee (James) Leibinger; grandchildren, Michael P. (Christie) Beck, Ashley (AJ) Quackenbush, Kory (Dana) Braun, Ryan (Kailie) Leibinger, Hannah (Alec) Chulumovich, Jim Braun, and Becky (Dave) Lea; great-grandchildren, Hallie, Atticus, Brady, Camden, Jordan, Ellianna, Teagan and Baby C expected in July of 2023; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his baby daughter; his son, Patrick Beck; his brother, Donald Beck; and sister, Shirley Perkins.

Chuck’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the VA Hospital for their great care.
