Obituary of Joyce E. Beattie

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beattie, Joyce Elizabeth of Saginaw passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. She was 78 years old. Joyce was born on March 17, 1942 the daughter of Delbert and Mildred (Schaefer) Schrader and grew up on the family farm established by her Grandfather, Elijah Schrader, and passed down to her father. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1960, the same school from which her father graduated and where she had many of the same teachers as he. Being confident and adventurous and having a desire to "see more of the world than cornfields", Joyce went on to attend Business School in Peoria, IL. After graduation, she moved by herself to Pasadena, California where she eventually met the Beattie family (except one). She then moved, again on her own, to Colorado Springs where she was set up on a blind date with the one Beattie she had yet to meet. Joyce was subsequently united in marriage to William Beattie on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1963 in Princeton, IL; he survives her. Joyce was a stay at home mom until the children were older, eventually going to work for EPK & D, CPAs for 27 years until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the Arden Church of the Nazarene in Sacramento, Apple Valley Church of the Nazarene and Saginaw Valley Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed attending Bible study groups and singing in the choir. She passed on to her children her love of singing and tight harmonies as they heard her sing the alto part of hymns while sitting next to her in church. Joyce loved southern gospel music; especially attending concerts and the National Quartet Conventions. But most of all Joyce loved her family; she enjoyed planning family gatherings and spending as much time with them as she could. Joyce was known as the "crafty grandma". She also enjoyed bragging about her favorite daughter in-law. Joyce was a very special kind of lady; she was loved by everyone she met, never having met a stranger. She always found the joy and the good in everyone. Joyce spent her life loving family, praying for them every day and encouraging them to live a Christ-filled life so that she would see them again and so they would know the eternal joy she now has. Most of all, she loved Bill, who gave her the adventures around the world that she grew up dreaming about. They had a beautiful partnership for 57 years and together taught their children what devotion to your spouse and what a God-filled marriage looks like. Joyce will be dearly missed. Joyce is survived by her husband, William; children, Scot (Leigh) Beattie, Kelly (Joe) Hansen and Julie (Hugo) Lepur; ten grandchildren; sister in-law, Barbara Schrader and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother Don Schrader.
