Obituary of Ella Mae Wilson

Ella Mae Wilson, age 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family who loved her, on Thursday, October 22, 2020 with the morning sun upon her face and the autumn leaves falling from the trees. Elly DePrekel was born in Bay City, Michigan on February 28, 1922 to Thomas and Magdalene (Claes) DePrekel. Elly and Bryant (Budd) Wilson were married in 1948 at St. Mary Cathedral in Saginaw. Budd preceded her in death in 1995 after 47 years of marriage. Elly attended Michigan State Normal College and graduated from Eastern Michigan University; she later obtained a Master's Degree in Secondary Business Education from the University of Michigan. She taught in Saginaw Township at MacArthur and Eisenhower Schools for 23 years. Elly was blessed with three sons, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She rarely missed any of their athletic activities and always had a kind word to offer win or lose. She was an avid football, basketball and baseball fan and always managed to have Thanksgiving dinner ready at halftime of the Lions game. Many fun years and happy times were spent at the family cottage in Petoskey. Elly enjoyed volunteering, reading, baking and traveling. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association (which she actively supported), the Saginaw women's Farm and Garden club, the League of Catholic Women and was a volunteer with St Mary's Hospital Auxiliary for 27 years. Surviving are three sons and their spouses: Martin (Mary) of Saginaw, Jeffrey (Michelle) of Suttons Bay, and Andrew (Barbara) of Marietta, GA; five grandchildren: Magdalene (Phillip) Steele, Rose (Brett) Melonis, Murphy (Stephanie) Wilson, Devan (David) Butler, Alanna Wilson; seven great-grandchildren : Cole and Theron Steele, Harvey Melonis, Mia Mae, Zoe, Lincoln and Addison Wilson; many nieces and nephews, a special niece, Patty Shea Holys; and her neighbor and friend, Marci Rodriguez. Elly was a woman of strong faith and in the weeks prior to her passing repeatedly assured everyone that she was at peace and had lived a wonderful life with great family and friends. VISITATION: Friends and family are welcome to gather at St. Dominic Parish - St. Stephen Site on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. In Accordance with Health Department guidelines masks will be required, social distancing will be observed and limitations on the number in attendance will be enforced. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020 at St Dominic Parish - St. Stephen site, 1310 Malzahn St. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Private entombment will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Dominic Parish - St. Stephen site.
