My memories with Howard do nothing but make me smile. He opened his arms to me, when I was a just a young kid, moved out on my own. I was still in high school, but had my own apartment across from Howard. He would make sure I went to school. He made sure I took care of myself. Then I met my now husband and the two of them clicked like they knew each other for years. Howard loved to fish. We took him to my aunts house to fish and told him he was welcome anytime. From then on, he would fish many times a week at her pond. He attending my wedding. He was the one who introduced me to the Spirit Franchise! We loved those games! One year, for my birthday- he surprised me and had my name up on the jumbo-tron wishing me a happy birthday! His heart and soul were made of gold. We took him to the airport many times so he could visit children he sponsored at World Vision. Whenever he received a letter in the mail, he was quick to show me pictures and his face lit up!
I loved sitting on his couch and listening to his stories, boy did he have great stories. From his time in Korea, to his trips to Columbia, to his adventures at bowling! When you sat on his couch, all his bowling plaques and rings were lined up!
Howard not only was my friend, but he was family! He treated me as one of his own and loved me unconditionally. He would rave for days about my 5-cheese baked spaghetti and asked for it often! I always made it with venison- just for him! I remember one year- my dad gave me a venison back-strap for him to eat- he smiled from ear to ear!!!
Thank you for all the wonderful memories! I will miss our chats and will remember your gentle soul forever!
Love you Grandpa!
Jessie and Ryan Pittman and kiddos!

I want your family to know how much you meant to the Hare family! You definitely were a Grandpa to our girls! Howard always greeted our girls Abby and Taylor and looked for them on the days he knew they would be coming to the bowling alley. He bought them chocolate bars, bought them 50/50 tickets, encouraged them to get certain scores and would reward them, supported them by coming to other centers to watch them bowl, birthday cards with little presents, graduation cards, Christmas cards, always cheering them on, and we loved all the stories he would tell us about his time in the marines and just his attitude about life that he had! He always made us laugh and looked forward to seeing him; the bowling alley won't be the same without his face their to greet us and give us a hug! Just Saturday March 10th, he told my daughter Abby that her birthday was coming up (he remembered!) and luckily my daughter Taylor was home on spring break from college and got to see him one last time not knowing. He gave Taylor a gift card for a restaurant because he probably wouldn't use it. The Hare family loved Grandpa Howard and he will live in our memories and hearts forever!

Howard was around when my oldest son started bowling and he's now 37 yrs. old. He was always such a great cheer leader to the kids. He seen all my children bowl and told them all to call him Grandpa Howard. He will truly be missed. Thank you Howard for you putting your life in the line of fire for our country. You'll never be forgotten...:broken_heart: Berta Jimenez- Owens
