Obituary of Joanne Greiner Cline

Cline, Joanne Greiner of Saginaw Township, Michigan Passed away at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Age 82 years. Joanne was a survivor of a 1992 diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In 2012, following a surgical procedure, she was diagnosed with an aggressive unidentified form of cancer. Joanne T. Greiner was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 30, 1934 to the late Arthur S. Greiner and Josephine Collins. She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1952. Following graduation, Joanne attended and graduated from the University of Detroit with an education degree in 1956. She taught first grade in the Detroit, Saginaw, and Saginaw Township School Systems. On July 18, 1959, she married her best friend, Tom Cline, a fellow U of D graduate whom she met when they both served on the University's 1955 Spring Carnival Committee. They lived in Saginaw except for four years in the San Diego area in the mid-1970s. She received a vocal scholarship to the National Music Camp at Interlochen, MI. Her gift was shared in performances with the Don Large Chorus of Detroit, and the Saginaw and San Diego Choral Societies. She was active in many Civic, Educational, Social and Charitable Organizations. She was supported in her cancer battle by the International "Team Joanne" a collection of petitioners, cheerleaders, and inspirers; a special back door angel; the parishioners of the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption; Dr. Liu and her staff; the Sisters of Mercy of Alma; and the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids. You all gave her the courage to sustain the fight. According to Joanne's request, cremation has taken place. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Tom; she leaves three children: children: Robert (Sandra) Cline of Saginaw, Thomas Cline of Battle Creek, MI, and Mary (James) Durham of Breckenridge, MI; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three "Legacy Daughters", and three great grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary (Edward) Welch, of East Lansing; three sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Brines, Mary Margaret (Daniel) Collins, and Helen Josephine (Frederick) Brenner. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, St. Andrew Catholic Church, 612 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Andy Booms will officiate. VISITATION: Family and friends are invited to gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service held on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family and friends will again gather for visitation at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saginaw Choral Society, the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption Restoration Project or a charity of the donor's choice.
