Obituary of Robert W. McIntosh

McINTOSH, Robert W. of Saginaw, Michigan, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 5, 2015. He was 90 years old. Robert Wallace McIntosh was born on October 4, 1924 in Jackson, Michigan to the late William W. and Catherine (Scott) McIntosh. Bob graduated from Jackson High School. Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and became a Fighter Pilot with the U.S. 8th Air Force during WWII. He was stationed in England flying P-51 Mustangs with the 359th Fighter Squadron. Bob returned home from the service and then married Jean E. St. John on July 7, 1946 in Jackson, Michigan. He then enrolled at Michigan State University studying Forestry. He worked for Wickes Lumber Corporate Office as a Merchandising Manager for over 18 years, retiring in 1982. Bob truly was a wonderful person with an excellent sense of humor and he treasured the times spent with family and friends. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Saginaw and Maple Hill Golf Club in Hemlock. Bob enjoyed golfing and traveling. Bob is survived by two sons and a daughter: David (Ilene) McIntosh of Saginaw, Jim (Carol) McIntosh of Shepherd, and Judy (Michael) Robertson of Troy; eight grandchildren: Andrew (Emily) McIntosh, Jane (Morgan) Rose, Elizabeth McIntosh, Kelly (Greg) Remer, Todd (Whitney) McIntosh, Laura, Christine and Eric Robertson; five great grandchildren: Gavin and Madeline McIntosh, Marian and Elizabeth Rose and Kelsey Remer; sister, Mary Caldwell. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jean E. McIntosh on March 23, 2011; sisters, Barbara Alysworth and Evelyn Barrett. FUNERAL: A Memorial Service honoring Bob will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Kathryn S. Snedeker will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with Bob's family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIAL: Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider the First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
