LOCKWOOD, Helen Arlene Barrie of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at her home with her husband Carlton and family present. She was 87 years old. Helen was born September 9, 1925 to the late George and Olive (Stolicker) Barrie in Hillman, Michigan. She was the oldest of four daughters. Helen met CJ, her future husband, in 1936 when she was 11 and he was 14. They married October 27, 1942 and have remained together these past 70 years. They were blessed with five children, Sharon, Barrie, George, Kim, and Sara. She devoted her life to her husband, her children, and her family. After their marriage, Helen and CJ lived and raised their family in Kansas, Texas. They later moved to Flint, Michigan and finally to Saginaw where they have resided for the last 53 years. Helen was raised in the Episcopal faith and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was a previous hospital volunteer and Gray Lady. She was an avid golfer and longtime member Maple Hill Golf Club. For many years after CJ's retirement, Helen worked at Body Tan in Shields and Saginaw. She enjoyed summers with her sister and family in Hillman at Lake Avalon. Helen is survived by four children, Sharon (Gerald) Jehnsen, Barrie (Becki) Lockwood, her daughter-in-law, Carol Lockwood Kim (Clint) Lockwood, Sara (Chris) Oravitz. Her son George predeceased her in 2010. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Gudum; her brother-in-law Ray Gudum; her grandchildren, Dave and Dan McCulloch,; Lori Nowacyzk, Marci Dehring, John Lockwood; Kelly Cowieson, Matt and Jeff Lockwood, Jessica Roth; Jacob, Hannah, Olivia, Naomi and Alex Oravitz; and numerous great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all. Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Lois Lou Chambers Turnpaugh and Naomi Elizabeth (EB) Collins. The family would like to thank all who cared for Helen with special thanks to the staff at A & D Home Health Care and Hospice of Hope. FUNERAL: Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Fr. Daniel Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. VISTATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Mary's of Michigan Foundation.
