Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 82 years old. James Edward Federico was born on August 6, 1942 in Saginaw to the late Anthony Joseph and Helen Margaret (Pellettier) Federico. Jim graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1960. He married Edith A. Inscho on April 5, 1972, in Saginaw, and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2003. Jim worked for Bruce Cartage Trucking for many years and then continued his career at Case Systems in Midland, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4232 and Moose Lodge #82. Jim was a faithful member of St. Dominic Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Jim was a hardworking man and could always find the good in any situation. He loved his family, to work in his garage and cheer on the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers.

He is survived by his children: Donald (Bonnie) Mercier and Daniel (Rozlyn) Mercier; seven grandchildren: Joseph Mercier, Meredith (Justin) Pietras, Madison (Kelsey) Gere, Mason Mercier, Carter Mercier, Don (Michelle) Mercier, Nicholas Mercier and Mandy (Eric) Hackney; many great grandchildren; a sister, Joan Turek; brothers: Robert Federico, Lawrence (Marilyn) Federico and Dann Federico; sisters-in-law, Karen Federico and Mary Federico; his companion and travel partner, Jane Hostutler; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith; daughter, Bethany Mercier; brothers, Donald Federico, Thomas Federico and Gerald Federico; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Thomas) Dupuis; brother-in-law, Tony Turek; sister-in-law, Rena Federico.

Jim’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and Staff of Covenant HealthCare – 3 West and their Dialysis Team for the support and care provided. Also, a special thank you to Linda Helpap, for introducing Jim and Jane. Their special connection, brought a youthful breath of life to Jim for the last four years.

SERVICE: A Funeral Liturgy for James will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. Dominic Parish – SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W Michigan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48638. Jim’s nephew, Rev. Fr. Matthew Federico, will officiate. Burial and committal prayers will follow Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603 on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Jim will lie in state at the church on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to National Kidney Foundation of Michigan or St. Dominic Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
