Hahn, Richard C. “Dick”

Saginaw, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. He was 89 years old. Richard C. Hahn was born on December 30, 1935 in Saginaw to the late Carl H. and Madalyn (Harms) Hahn. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in June of 1953. Dick enlisted with the United States Navy Reserves in 1953, proudly serving as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 for 17 years. Dick married Victoria “Pat” Danilowicz in 1959 and together they had Curt, David, Roger and Thomas. As life continued, Dick reconnected with a high school friend, Janet (Eurich) Sawatzki, and they were married on November 15, 1973. She brought into the family Mark, Leonette, James and John and together they blended their families and celebrated 51 wonderful years. His family was central to his life.

Dick worked for several industrial steam generator companies, designing, integrating and optimizing their total boiler, burner and control systems. He helped these businesses run better every day. He taught as an Adjunct Faculty Member for Delta College, the State Certification for the Boiler Operator Licensing Program. Dick proudly served the Saginaw Community working in many local hospitals, schools and large facilities on their boiler systems. His knowledge was helpful as he traveled throughout the nation educating and working with steam powered facilities. Dick’s interests throughout his life and the relationships that he built within the steam community will be forever be cherished by his family. In his later years, Dick was often recognized throughout the community as “The man in the hat". Dick loved hosta gardening, the gardening community and being outdoors. He held memberships with Gardening for Gents, Saginaw Valley Hosta Society and loved volunteering at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo.

Dick is survived by his wife, Janet Hahn; his children: Curt Hahn, David Hahn and Roger Hahn; step-children: Mark (Kathy) Sawatzki, Leonette (Phil) Harvey, James Sawatzki and John (Jeanne) Sawatzki; grandchildren: Logan (Anna Leah), Kaitlin, Kathleen, Ryan, Emily and Hannah; great grandchildren: Lucas and Clio; nieces, extended family and dear friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Hahn, who died at birth; daughter-in-law, Christine Hahn; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ginny Hahn.

Cremation has taken place. The family will be planning a celebration of life service at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo at a future date. Dick’s cremated remains will be buried at Riverside Cemetery in Alma.
