Saginaw, Michigan

Father, grandfather, brother, friend, and uncle passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at his residence. He was 86 years old. David Harter Lantz was born on March 19, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan to Rolland and Helen (Nichols) Lantz. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1956. David proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps and the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He finished his military career with the United States Navy Sea Bees, earning the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He was employed by Michigan Bell and AT&T as a Switchman, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. David was a member of the Saginaw Gun Club where he served as past president, Bridgeport Gun Club, and served on the board of the Linwood Sportsman’s Club for many years. He along with Barb volunteered their time to help with the Friendship Games between the United States and Canada.

David loved collecting war memorabilia. He also enjoyed collecting and working on firearms and was a competitive marksman, competing in many shooting matches and earning the distinction of High Senior Marksman. 

Surviving are children, Julie (Michael) Goeke, Heidi Cannon, Bridget (Brent) Bishop, Jason (Alison) Lantz; grandchildren, Lindsey, Stacy, Becca, Nic, Winnie, Addie; one sister, Charlotte (Dick) Metzger, Barbara Lantz, mother of Bridget and Jason; extended family, and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Rolland and Helen Lantz; Clara Lantz, mother of Julie and Heidi; one sister, Barb Schimpf.

In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There are no services planned at this time. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Saginaw County.
