Beird, Mary Ann

Saginaw Twp., Michigan

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and dear friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was 87 years old. Mary Ann Pfundt was born on November 20, 1937, in Bay City, Michigan to August and Mildred (Schultz) Pfundt.

Mary Ann graduated from Bay City Central with the class of 1956. She then obtained her Bachelor of Education from the University of Michigan in 1959. Mary Ann married her high school sweetheart, William H. “Bill” Beird, on June 18, 1960, in Bay City. Together they shared 60 years of marriage until Bill preceded her in death on May 2, 2021. Mary Ann taught elementary school for the Bay City Public Schools and Kindergarten for the US Forces Schweinfurt American Dependent School in Schweinfurt, Germany before devoting herself to raising her family and volunteering in her community.  In 1978 she was initiated into the Chapter AH P.E.O. and remained an active member throughout her life. She was a long standing member of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region. Mary Ann had many talents, but she especially loved gardening, cooking, and was a skilled quilter. Her love of quilting kept The Baby Pantry shelves and the Assistants League supplied with handmade quilts to donate toward their missions.

Mary Ann is survived by her two sons: Dr. Thomas (Lisa) Beird of Saginaw and their children, Tucker and Ryenne Beird; Jeff (Anna) Beird of Holland and their children, Josey (Connor) Brady, Eliza (Riley) Draper, and Owen Beird; and sister-in-law, Trudy (Robert) Grimmer of Frisco, TX; nephew Stephen (Linda) Grimmer, Coppel, TX and niece Katie (Jason) Kavanaugh, Frisco, Texas; and  two God-Daughters Becky Wight Lipchik (Alanson) and Megan Royle Carrella (Frankfort). Mary Ann and her husband Bill were members of a Bridge Potluck Group for over 55 years, which developed strong bonds of friendship and a surrogate family for all included.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Beird, and her parents, August and Mildred Pfundt.
