Harper, Goldie M.

Saginaw, Michigan

Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Plein De Vie Estates Assisted Living in Lafayette Louisiana.  She was 91 years old. Goldie Margaret Harper was born on April 15, 1933 in Sterling, Michigan to the late Joseph and Julia (Huszka) Varadi.

She graduated from the old Sterling High School in 1951 as Co-Salutatorian, and in 1953 married Leo J. LaClair in Standish Michigan.  They had five Children.  On October 15, 1976 she married Buster Norman Harper.  Making Saginaw their home for 39 years until his death she and Buster were charter members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.  She spent endless hours in her flowers and garden, where she loved the outdoors and all the animals.  She enjoyed cooking and canning the foods she harvested, at times staying up late into the night. She also enjoyed playing cards and was an active member of the local Bridge Club.  Most of all she loved her family and having all the little ones around.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, David (Peggy) LaClair, Christine (Tom) Schuck, Carol LaClair, Darren (Linda) LaClair, Dennis (Mary) LaClair; step-son Major Dean (Maria) Harper; many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; brother-in-law Bill Harper and sister-in-law Pauline Hall. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; step-son Norman Harper; brothers, Joseph (Jewel) Varadi Jr., Mike (Magda) Morrow, Martin (Margaret) Moro, George (Betty) Moro, Steve Varadi, Alex (Katie)Varadi; sisters, Judy (Pete) Gunn, and Velma Varadi; brother-in-law Eugene Harper and sister-in-law Kay English.

The family would like to thank Goldie’s many friends, neighbors, and St. John Vianney Catholic Church for so much help, thoughtfulness, and kindness though the years.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Road, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Christian F. Tabares will officiate. A committal service will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in Saginaw.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or Catholic Charities USA – Disaster Relief.
