Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, October 5, 2024 in the presence of her family. Olivia Contreras was born December 2, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Jose Contreras and Maria Guadalupe (Gutierrez) Contreras.

Olivia attended and graduated from Montrose High School. Olivia married the love of her life, Frederick A. “Fred” Alaniz on May 4, 1973. Olivia worked for 15 years as a Health Aide, but caring for her family was the highest priority. Olivia found passion in cooking for and spending time with her family, she loved organizing and attending backyard barbeques with family and friends.

Olivia is survived by her sons: Daniel Alaniz, Bryan Alaniz, and Erik (Corinne Parcell) Alaniz; grandchildren: Sophia Alaniz, Aubri Alaniz, Racquel Hernandez-Alaniz, Bryan Hernandez-Alaniz, Brooklyn Saunders, Hudson Saunders, and Madison Saunders; great-grandchildren: Ariella Burnett, Avianna Burnett and Jayden Burnett Jr. Olivia is also survived by her siblings: Thomas (Debbie) Contreras, Sylvia (Larry) Naveras, brothers-in-law: Santos Cruz and Phil Alaniz; sister-in-law, Linda Avila as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Alaniz on May 3, 2017; her parents; her daughter: Nicole Alaniz; sisters: Gloria Cruz and Theresa Contreras; mother-in-law, Esther Ann Alaniz and brother-in-law: Juan Avila.

FUNERAL: A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Cathedral Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. Adam P. Maher will officiate with burial to follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather at the Cathedral on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
