Obituary of Philip Wade Dickinson

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip Wade Dickinson, age 83 passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aleda E Lutz Veterans Administration Community Living Center on August 19, 2024. He was honored with a full-service Veteran Color Guard ceremony and flag presentation to his remaining family. Philip was born on November 14, 1940 in Saginaw, MI the son of the late William and Maxine (Smith) Dickinson.

Phil was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp and served his country honorably in Vietnam in 1964-65.

He was a retired educator from the State of Michigan and proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School and Michigan State University. Phil was a passionate outdoorsman and was an active member of the Riverview Rod & Gun Club for over 55 years. Phil’s love of dogs runs deep and he had a particular affection for golden retrievers. Sammy and Reagan were always by his side and their reunion will undoubtedly be fabulous.

He leaves behind his brother and Sister-in-law (Dan and Judy Dickinson) and their family, his sister and brother-in-law (Carol and Cliff Jones) and their family, as well as his three children (Bill Dickinson, Kimberly Thiel, and Jeanne Cottom) and their spouses and families. With extreme joy and no coincidence in the timing of his passing, just a few days ago Phil met and shared a milkshake with his great-grandson Nolan Hailey (age 2) of Murfreesboro, TN.

A private memorial service will be held for immediate family followed by cremation. For those who wish to donate in Phil’s honor, the family requests donations to be made directly to the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Administration Medical Center, dedicated to the Palliative Care Unit in the Community Living Center.

On behalf of Philip Wade Dickinson, the family extends its deepest gratitude to the exceptional medical staff and employees at the Palliative Care Unit as an integral part of the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Administration Medical Center. On a daily basis, these dedicated and talented humans provided world class palliative care, and whose commitment to caring for our nations Veterans is truly considered an honor. For almost two years Phil received exceptional palliative care, but more importantly it was delivered with love, kindness and passion that was second to none. From the bottom of our collective hearts, we thank you.
