Our loving and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison. He was 85 years old. John Herbert Dorr was born on January 6, 1939 in Saginaw to the late Herbert A. and Edna R. (Gritz) Dorr. John received his GED through the United States Army, serving his country proudly for 2 years. Following his honorable discharge, he met the love of his love, Phyllis Joan Weaver at a party. They were married on January 17, 1959. John worked as a Semi Truck Driver for over 40 years, retiring from USF Holland. He was a member of Teamsters Local #486, American Legion Post # 22, Fraternal Order of Eagles # 497 and Birch Run Moose Lodge # 2426. John was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Parish – St. Christopher site. John and Phyllis loved wintering in Avon Park, Florida for 18 years, where he enjoyed golfing, bowling and horseshoes.  

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Dorr of Bridgeport; son, Michael (Karen) Dorr; grandson, Ryan (Heather Turner) Winthurst; sister, Fran Jaenicke of Shields; nieces and nephews: Gary (Lisa) Jaenicke, Debra (Dennis) O'Connor and Craig (Kate) Jaenicke; many extended family and dear friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tracie Dorr; brother, Gerald T. Dorr and brother-in-law, Clarence “Sonny” Jaenicke.

FUNERAL: A Funeral will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State), Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Alberto E. Vargas will officiate. Military Honors will follow the service held under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #22. Rite of Committal will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge.

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m.
