Gronholz, Virginia “Ginny”

Saginaw, Michigan

Long-time Saginaw resident and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Virginia “Ginny”  Gronholz passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 14, 2024. She was 99 years old.  She is survived by her sister Vivian, her daughters Jill and Jan, her grandchildren: Justin, Kristin, Alia and Jared and her great-granddaughters: Quinn and Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Delford “Del” Gronholz and her brother, Harold Phillips.

Ginny was born on September 28, 1924 to Glen and Florence Phillips.  She grew up in and around Kalamazoo, Michigan.  As a young adult, she loved performing.  She and her sister sang and danced in many high school musicals.  She graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in secondary education with a major in speech pathology.  While attending WMU, she met the love of her life Del Gronholz and they were married in 1948.  In 1950, she and Del moved to Saginaw and put down roots.  They had two daughters Jill and Jan.

Ginny was member of Peace Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Guild serving as its president for several years.  She was a stay-at-home mother when her daughters were young but she entered the work force as a substitute teacher when her younger daughter, Jan, was in junior high school.

She always enjoyed golf and was a member of the Saginaw Country Club’s 18-hole ladies golf league for many years serving as its President for several years.  She was also an avid gardener.  Planting her yard with flowers each year, was one of her joys.  She was a member of the Saginaw branch of the National Garden Club serving as its Treasurer for several years.

In her later years, Ginny joined a book club of wonderful women that she called her study group.  They read and discussed books, shared insights and a thirst for knowledge.  She treasured the friendships cultivated through this club.

Ginny’s Memorial Service will be a private family affair.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Saginaw, MI 48603. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family through www.DeislerFuneralHome.com
