Acevedo, Joseph R.

Apache Junction, AZ

Formerly of Saginaw, MI

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at his residence in Apache Junction, Arizona. He was 81 years old. Joseph Regino Acevedo was born on October 26, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan to Ygnacio and Mary (Sauseda) Acevedo. Joseph attended St. Joseph High School, Saginaw public schools and earned a B.A. and M.A. of Business from Siena Heights University.

He married the lovely Inacia M. “Nacha” Gonzales on February 18, 1966. They moved around metro Detroit and finally settled in Highland, MI., where they started a family. Together they explored local lakes, miles of fields and forests, hosted family parties, had backyard bonfires, enjoyed Nacha’s vegetable gardens, and traveled the country in their RV.

Throughout his life he ventured through a diverse range of professions. He worked in automotive assembly plants and eventually transitioned into management. He spent time as a body guard for various clients including Caesar Chavez. He started his own record and music management company, Scorpio Records. He worked with various artists, including his brother Tony Acevedo’s music projects, and even scored a contract for a show with Michael Jackson. After earning his master’s degree, he moved into sales of airplane, manufacturing and automotive parts. He eventually started his own renovation business of moving, fixing and selling homes in Pontiac, MI. And his final employer, possibly one of his proudest, was working for Homeland Security at various positions on the west coast.

He loved action movies, cable TV and collected VHS and DVD’s. He enjoyed watching and attending sport events, from boxing to golf to baseball. He proudly helped numerous family and friends with problems in their lives, such as financial advice, immigration support or other major life issues. He was a rock in his entire extended family, his friends and his  community. He loved his wife, his children, and of course his beloved grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, DeLeano Acevedo, DeAndra Acevedo and Danielle Acevedo; grandchildren, Alexia, Rosalie, Sophia and Elias; siblings, David (Trudy) Acevedo, Tony (Diana) Acevedo, and Angela Jimenez, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Ygnacio and Mary Acevedo; his wife, Inacia Acevedo; two brothers, Henry Acevedo and Peter Acevedo, and one sister, Caroline Barajas.
