Obituary of Alan Hale Walton

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alan Hale Walton passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2024. He was born on December 31, 1937, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Charles William Walton and Genevieve Zeeb Walton.

Alan spent his formative years in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area. During his high school years, he attended Birmingham High School. He went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science & Arts, and was an active member of the Phi Chi Theta fraternity. While at MSU, Alan met the love of his life, Nancy Diane Edmondson, whom he married on July 22, 1961.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy D. Walton, in 2016, and his daughter, Pamela Diane Moorhead, in 2013. He is survived by his son-in-law, Robert Moorhead, and his grandchildren, Blake Robert, Grant Cooper, and Kendall Grace Moorhead, all of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, who knew and cherished him as their papa.

Alan is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Walton Loubert, her husband Tracey Lynn Loubert, and his children: Lynn Marie, Dennis Wayne, and Kacey May Loubert, of Saginaw, Michigan. He is survived by his brother, Douglas Walton of Hailey, Idaho, while his sister, Barbara Bruce of Lucerne, Missouri, predeceased him in 2023.

He leaves behind many special brothers- and sisters-in-law: Peter and Marcia Ramah, Thomas and Susan Galasterer, and Frank and Mary Edmondson, all of Saginaw, Michigan. Alan was also a cherished uncle to many wonderful nieces and nephews, including Jeanne Jarret, Bobby Bruce, Anne Norman, Amy Fulsher, Jill Daris, Joseph Ramah, and Sarah Ortega.

In his later years, Alan found companionship with his dear friend, Emily Kitchen of Howell, Michigan. Together, they enjoyed traveling, horse shows, gardening, and frequent trips to Barnes & Noble.

Alan was a self-taught and astute businessman in the oil and gas exploration industry. He founded companies such as Industrial Natural Gas and Nitro Energy, and experienced great success during the oil boom with large wells in Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

His greatest passion, however, was for breeding and owning top-quality Morgan show horses. Over the last 44 years, he was involved in owning and breeding more than 200 horses under the Nanton and NS banners, producing multiple regional, national, and world champions.

Alan had a lifelong love of reading and was rarely seen without his current favorite book, magazine, or newspaper. He was also an avid gardener, nurturing his rose garden, hostas, and vegetable gardens with great care. His love of the outdoors extended to duck hunting and fishing, particularly trout fishing in his younger days. He even traveled to the Amazon in Brazil several times to fish for peacock bass.

As per Alan's wishes, cremation has taken place. He leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, and excellence in everything he pursued, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
