Abelina Huerta

Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, in Warren, Michigan. Mother lived to 100 years of age. We were so fortunate to have her in our lives for so long. Abelina was born on March 24, 1923, in San Benito, Texas, the daughter of Teodoro and Gregoria (Villareal) DeLeon.  She was married to Raul Huerta who preceded her in death on December 6, 2018.  Mother lived in California for several years. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mother loved the outdoors and nature. She often said that Carmel, California was her paradise. She hiked the trails of Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe. Mother loved to garden and plant flowers. Mother was loved by so many people.  Most of all she loved her children, (20) grandchildren & (20) great- grandchildren and (5) great-great grandchildren. 

Surviving children: Refugio (Elida) Maza, Norma Huerta-Pena, Raul (Raquel) Huerta Jr., Roberto (Maria) Huerta, Frances (Myron) Huerta-Backhaus, Roxanna (Nick) Huerta-Issa. Surviving sisters and brothers are San Juana Rodriguez, Stella Lucio and Olivia De La Garza. Gilbert (Chris) DeLeon and Ramiro DeLeon. And many nieces and nephews.

Abelina was preceded in death by her husband Raul Huerta, parents, sisters, Maria Dora Huerta, Ameli Ybarra, Ofelia DeLeon. Three brothers, Tony DeLeon, Ted De Leon Jr. and Samuel DeLeon.

Funeral Service: Funeral Liturgy for Abelina will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6^th Ave. Saginaw, MI  48601. Entombment to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, from 4:00-7:00. A Rosary will take place at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
