Our hardworking, family man and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old. Jack Roy Mendoza was born on June 25, 1936 in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from Arthur Hill Tech High School and then enlisted to serve with the United States Marine Corp in April of 1955, proudly serving until 1959. Jack met the love of his life, Maria del Socorro (Cora) Pena, and they were married on August 23, 1958, in Pontiac, MI. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage making wonderful memories together. Jack worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at General Motors Corp. and retired in 1992 after 33 years of service. He then worked as a consultant for Kibbe Engineering until 1996. Jack loved to dance with his wife, fish, woodwork, and take meticulous care of his yard, but most importantly he loved spending time and caring for his family.
His legacy will be carried on with his wife, Cora Mendoza; his children: Jack (Kris) Mendoza, Lisa (Gary) Woolever, Laura Gregory and Jay (Lisa) Mendoza; grandchildren: Kayla Woolever, Ali (Jordan) Treib, Tyler (Jessica) Woolever, Madison Mendoza, Aubrey Gregory; four great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Kolton, Maverick and Savannah; siblings: Gloria Cardona, Malinda (Gabriel) Villarreal, Arnold (Pauline) Nerio Jr.; brother-in-law, Robert Paramo; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents: Trinidad (Ayala) and Arnif Nerio; his sister, Armida Paramo and brother-in-law, Daniel Cardona.
FUNERAL: A funeral service for Jack will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Ruth Gomez will officiate. Burial and military honors under the auspices of the United States Marines will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.
