Obituary of Barbara Lois Janson
Barbara Janson went to her heavenly home peacefully on December 8, 2023 with family by her side at Auburn Fields Assisted Living. Born September 7, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Fred and Laura Birnbaum, she married the late Marvin Janson on February 7, 1952 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Together, they created a home based on Christian faith. Whether raising her family in Reese, enjoying the middle years on Sanford Lake and her later years in Freeland, faith and family were the center of Barb’s life. Barbara was a faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeland and a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Gladwin, serving in many ways throughout the years. She felt called to be a witness and continued to do so all the days of her life.
Barbara enjoyed nature, seeing God’s wonder in the natural world. She loved to garden, enjoying the plants for their individual beauty and uniqueness and not the overall effect. She loved to be near water, which determined the location of family homes and vacation spots; Barbara was known to move her camper by hand for a better view, to the embarrassment of her children and amusement of her husband and siblings. She loved to read, especially nonfiction; her favorite book was her Bible. She loved to learn and would study God’s word daily, recording and journaling nonstop.
Surviving are her children: Terri Janson of New Lothrop, Annette (Tony) Janowiak of Sanford, Paul Janson of Midland, and Todd Janson of Spring Lake. She is also survived by grandchildren Rachel Raddatz, Stephen (Katie) Janowiak, Laura Janson, Carlos (Shannon) Janson, and Kristin Janson along with 9 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Auburn Fields Assisted Living and MyMichigan Home Care/Hospice for the comfort and care they provided.
