Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old. Melquiades Garcia was born on December 10, 1934 in Marion, Texas to the late Octaviano and Julia Garcia. He worked for Grey Iron Foundry-Saginaw Metal Casting Operations for 52 years. Mike was a devoted Tigers Baseball fan watching the games and bantering with family and friends about what was happening with the team.

Mike is survived by his children: Margaret (Rodney) Sowders and Genevieve (Gregory) Bennett; grandchildren: Amy (Jeffery) McMurrich, James (Kristine) Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, Samantha (Robert) Gallegos and Caitlin Bennett; 10 great grandchildren; two great great- grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers: Minga Montana, Vicenta (Carly) Pazz, Henry Garcia and Frank (Zulema) Garcia; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

SERVICE: A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. John the XXIII Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 445 S. Midland St., Merrill, Michigan 48637. Rev. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp S.J. will officiate. Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) Saginaw, MI 48603, on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.; and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
