Obituary of David G. Kocks

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Kocks, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 29, 2023 with family by his side. He was born December 1, 1960 in Saginaw, son of William Kocks Jr. and the late Helen (Baumer) Kocks. David lived his entire life in Saginaw and attended the Millet Learning Center until 1987. After completing the program there, he began attending Community Ties North. David grew up in the Catholic faith and was a long-time member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. It was through the church that he became involved with the SPRED program through the Diocese of Saginaw and also joined Bible classes at Peace Lutheran Church. David was a very active man throughout his life and participated in the Special Olympics for many years. He also played basketball where he was coached by his dad and his brother Joe through the Millet Center. David had such a lively personality and loved music. He enjoyed dancing and singing and a fondness for the Partridge Family. Most of all David loved Polka. He was the Polka King and never wanted to miss the Frankenmuth Polka Fest or Oktoberfest. The world has grown a little dimmer now that David’s light has gone out.

David is survived by his father, William Kocks Jr.; siblings, Carol Kocks, Mary (Gary) Church, Christine (Gary) Bailey, Joseph Kocks; nieces and nephews, Brandon (Amanda) Kocks, Aaron (Quinn) Kocks, Christopher Koenig, Melissa (Nate Maddox) Bailey, and Emiley (Samuel) Morgan; great niece and nephew, Myleigh and Maddox Kocks; and sister-in-law, Lynn Kocks. In addition to his mother Helen, David was preceded in death by his brother Tom Kocks.

David’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Res-Care-Vienna and Absolute Home Health and Hospice for the care and compassion given.
