Obituary of Frances J. Vacik
Frances J. Vacik, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, just shy of her 88th birthday. She was born August 24, 1935 in Swartz Creek, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Ivan) Cajka. Fran married James Vacik, Jr. on October 9, 1954 in Swartz Creek. Together they were married for 68 years until his death on October 24, 2022. Fran moved to Saginaw once she and Jim were married and took great pride in her home. She always made sure the house was open for all visitors. You could count on Fran having a fresh pot of coffee and her famous cinnamon rolls or blueberry coffee cake. Fran genuinely cared for people and always wanted to make sure her friends and family were doing well. She spent many days visiting those who were no longer able to get around, bringing them food, treats, and companionship. Fran was also very interested in politics. She enjoyed watching the news to stay informed of every aspect of the government. Fran could also be more laid back. She often played cards and tended a beautiful garden of flowers and vegetables. More than anything, she loved being a mother and grandmother. She cherished the moments she was able to spend watching her little ones grow. Fran made it a priority to attend all events and activities she could to create as many memories as possible.
Fran is survived by her children, Dennis (Diane) Vacik of Saginaw and Shelley (Ken) McGeathy of Hemlock; grandchildren, Helen (Nicholas) Woodhull of Ortonville, Joe Vacik of Findlay, OH, Anne (Mat) Bard of Swartz Creek, and Daniel (Samantha) McGeathy of Hemlock; great grandchildren, Genevieve and Olivia Bard of Swartz Creek; sister-in-law, Judie Spitz; and several cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Arlene O’Brien.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Wellspring Lutheran Services and Careline Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Fran and her family.
