Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was 91 years old. Mary Antoinette Panico was born on April 6, 1932 in Saginaw to the late Gaetano “Guy” and Charlotte (Scala) Panico. She married the love of her life, Richard T. Tyra I, on April 30, 1955 in Saginaw, he preceded her in death on April 6, 2015. Mary worked for many years at Home Dairy. She was a faithful member of St. John XXIII Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock. Mary loved to travel, tend her flower gardens, bowl and give to those in need. She celebrated her Italian heritage having membership with the Sons of Italy and playing “Palooch” an Italian Marble Game. Mary loved eating at Applebee’s and receiving special attention from her favorite waiter Matt, and her Sunday afternoon dinners with family. Her love for family will live on forever in her children, grandchildren and her furry grand-puppies.
Above all, she loved and cherished her family and will forever be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and love. Surviving are her three daughters and two sons: Debbie Tubb of James Township; Marianne King of Saginaw Township, Rich Tyra, II of Hemlock, Cathleen (Timothy) Breternitz of Midland, and Gregory Tyra and his significant other, Jennifer Stryker of Thomas Township; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Eugene Tyra. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Tubb; granddaughter, Marie Carlotta Antoinette Tubb; brothers: Dominic “Tony”, Andrew and Carlo Panico; sisters, Virginia Whitney and Susan DiSarno; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at St. John XXIII Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church, 151 St. Marys Drive, Hemlock, MI 48646. Rev. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp, S.J. will officiate. Honoring Mary's wishes cremation will follow the Mass. A private committal service will take place at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit the family at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. John XXIII Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church or the Emmaus House.
