Obituary of Helen Ione Reynolds

Reynolds, Helen I. passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Wellsprings Assisted Living at the age of 105. Helen was born in Glennie, Michigan on February 26, 1918, to the late Mitchell and Emma (Bissonette) Buchanan. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1935 and worked on all of the S.H.S. class reunions. Helen married Roland F. Reynolds on May 29, 1937 in Saginaw, MI; he predeceased her in 1996.

Helen worked as a secretary at Saginaw High School for 20 years. She helped organize the Saginaw Public Schools Secretaries Association and served two terms as President. She also served as a Board member of the Saginaw County Retired School Personnel and on the Scholarship Committee of the Community Foundation.

She was an active member of the First Christian and First Christian Church West for over 80 years, serving in the choir and as Elder, Finance Chair and the Church In Society Chair. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the East Side Soup Kitchen for over 20 years. When her children were young she was active in Scouting, earning the Scouter’s Key, and was also President of the Saginaw High School P.T.S.A.

Helen is survived by her sons; Dr. Larry (Alice Littlefield) Reynolds, and Roger (Mary L.) Reynolds, five grandchildren; Michael (Patty) Reynolds, Steven Reynolds, Amy (Phillip) Counts, Monica (Andy Woodrick) Reynolds, and Rachel (Mort Forsko) Reynolds, thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren with another due in July; sister in-law; Nan Buchanan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister; Marian Ulmer, brothers; Harold Buchanan and M. Ike Buchanan, brothers in-law; Edward Ulmer, Clarence Leppien and Chester Reynolds, and sisters in-law; Dorothy Leppien, Martha Buchanan and Gertrude Reynolds.

FUNERAL: Funeral services for Helen will take place Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. from Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Saginaw, MI  48603 with Patty Reynolds to officiate. Private burial to take place in St. Andrews Cemetery.

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at Deisler Funeral Home on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
