Obituary of Mary Catherine Hickey
Mary Catherine “Cathy” Hickey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away May 26, 2023 at Toni and Trish House in Auburn. She was 69 years old. Cathy was born January 29, 1954 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Herbert Garcia and Dolores Ophelia (Soria) Lucio. She grew up in Saginaw and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1972. Later that summer on July 15th, Cathy married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Anthony Hickey at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She spent her career as a baker, beginning at Gase Baking Company and eventually retiring from Farmer Jack. Cathy was not only a baker, but a tremendous cook who always made sure there was enough food to go around. She also enjoyed numerous other activities such as bowling, bingo, and going to the casino. Cathy also enjoyed crafts, everything from needlepoint to jewelry making. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals of all shapes and sizes. More than anything, Cathy loved her family. She loved spending every minute she could with her grandchildren and holidays with her sister. Cathy was a compassionate woman who generally cared for people. She would open her home to any friend or family in need no matter the situation. Cathy provided a safe place, and her generosity and truly good nature will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 51 years, Joseph Anthony Hickey Sr.; children, Joseph A. (Wendy Williams) Hickey Jr., Angela (Ted) Van Buren III, and Herbert C. Hickey; grandchildren, Kaley, Nadia, Mia, Claire, Megan, Haley, and Cheyanne; siblings, William (Diann) Lucio and Julie (Tom) Mossner; brother-in-law, Tom Rappley; and many special nieces and nephews.
