Obituary of Beverly Jean Simpson
Simpson, Beverly J.
Evansville, IN
Formerly of Saginaw, MI
Mrs. Beverly Jean Simpson, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in Evansville, Indiana following several recent health issues. Age 87 years. Beverly was born October 12, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan, the only child of Eddie and Minnie Proux. All three were very active in church, where Beverly played the accordion and sang worship songs.
When the Bible Church closed, the family became members of the First Baptist Church in Saginaw, where Beverly was a member for over 50 years. She served on the Diaconate, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was active in the Berean’s Sunday School Class and the Women’s Society. Beverly met Frank Simpson at the church in 1957, and they were married for five years.
She also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for 40 years as a Radiologist Technologist Technician in the Cancer Treatment Center. Beverly retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in the Fall of 2000 to live with her son Mark in Louisville, Kentucky where both cared for her mother. The family then moved to Newburgh, Indiana in March 2006.
Over the years Beverly was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Business and Professional Women’s Sorority, and the Michigan Society of Medical Assistants in which she once served as President. She later became Queen of the Red Hat Society Chapter, “Hats with Plumes and Ribbons and Blooms” in Evansville, Indiana, a group of Christian ladies who became fast friends.
Each week Beverly loved visiting with the stylists and friends at the Shear Madness Salon in Newburgh, Indiana. She also loved returning to Michigan for family reunions, to visit with dear friends, to take road trips to see the colorful Fall leaves in Northern Lower Michigan, and especially to visit Frankenmuth and Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland.
Beverly is survived by her two sons, Mark Simpson of Evansville, Indiana and Brian Simpson and his wife Jennifer of Thornton, Colorado. She also has two grandchildren, Geoffrey Simpson, and Graham Simpson, also of Thornton, Colorado.
Due to age and health restrictions of so many family and friends across several states, a virtual Celebration of Life Service was made by her oldest son, Rev. Dr. Mark Simpson, to be viewable at any time via the link https://rockbridge.info/beverly beginning May 20th.
Those who desire to do so can make memorials to the newly established Rockbridge Seminary Simpson-Proux Ministry Service Award found at https://www.rockbridge.edu/beverly/.
Burial has taken place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw alongside her parents.
