Obituary of Becki (Lawler) Lockwood
Lockwood, Becki (Lawler)
Saginaw, Michigan
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and dear friend passed away peacefully at her home under hospice care on Friday, September 23, 2022 with her loving husband holding her hand, due to injuries sustained from a fall at home six weeks prior. Becki Lynn Lawler was born on January 7, 1947 in Saginaw to the late Madeline M. (Egerer) and Francis X. “Pat” Lawler. She went to St. Stephen Catholic School and graduated from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic High School in 1965. Becki met Carlton Barrie Lockwood at the Music Box in Prudenville at a dance in July of 1966. They were married on August 19, 1967. Together they raised three children: Lori, Marci and John. Becki returned to teach at her home school, St. Stephen Catholic School, in 1972. She also worked as a manager at Kids Klothes in Bay City with her “mum”, Madeline. Becki returned to teach 4th grade at St. Stephen and retired in 2014. The countless students that she has encouraged over the years has been incredible. There isn't a former student of Becki's that was not changed and impacted not only by her teaching but by her love for each student. Her classroom was always filled with activities like Governor’s quilts, knitting and life skills. One of Becki’s life’s work was to care for her family. Her fierce love and devotion for her children and grandchildren was seen in caring for her granddaughter, Charity, during her battle with cancer. Becki never left Charity's side during Charity's long 6 month inpatient stay at Helen Devos Children's Hospital to battle her very aggressive cancer. For this her family considers her a hero. She was also a faithful member of St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church for all her life.
If you were lucky enough to come in contact with Becki you always left feeling better as Becki was sincerely invested in everyone's “story” and how she could make a difference to lift others. Becki’s loving, generous, compassionate and selfless spirit will be deeply missed by her husband, Barrie; children: Lori Lawler, Marci Lockwood and John Barrie Lockwood; grandchildren: Connor (Michelle), Keegan, Dean Keary, Hope Madeline, Charity, Bodey, Bradey, Skyleigh Becklynn, Paige, Peyton, Faith, Grace, Eden and John Barrie; great-grandchildren: Hayden and Blayne; siblings: John (Karen) Lawler, Tom (Rayleen) Lawler and Ric Lawler; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Sharon Jehnsen, Carol Lockwood, Kim (Clint) Lockwood, and Sara (Chris) Oravitz; her dog, Blue, who was her walking, TV watching and always at her side companion; many nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, colleagues and students.
Becki was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren: Serenity Lynn, Madeline Mary, Patrick Francis, Bailey, Harmony; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen (Barrie) and Carlton “CJ” Lockwood; sister-in-law, Shirley Lawler; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Jehnsen and George Lockwood.
Becki’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mbabuike, the staff at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital and A&D Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Becki and her family during the past six weeks.
