Obituary of John R. Ponte, Jr.

John R. Ponte Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 93 years old. John R. Ponte Jr. was born on November 4, 1928 in Fall Rivers, Massachusetts to the late John R. and Mary (Mendes) Ponte. He married Pauline Rose Patenaude on May 5, 1984, and she preceded him in death on August 12, 2016. John proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and continued serving with the Navy for 20 years. During his retirement, John worked for Hasbro Toys. John’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, traveling with his wife and Saturday night cards with friends.

John is survived by a daughter, Terri (Trevor Littlejohn) Stout of Saginaw; a son, Johnny Lee (Michelle) Stout, Jr. of Saginaw; son, George Walter Earley of Saginaw, grandchildren: Kathy (Justin) Harper, Robin (Greg) Lutz and Johnny Lee Stout; two great-grandson: Jacoby and Jaxon Harper; and two brothers-in-law: Norman (Ann) Patenaude and Donald Patenaude all of Rhode Island. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Pauline.

GRAVESIDE: A private graveside service for John will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Pastoral Associate, Sharon Wahl will officiate. Military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy and American Legion Post #439 will be held at the cemetery.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to American Heart Association.
