Obituary of Jeanette Hummel-Susalla

Hummel-Susalla, Jeanette B. age 97 passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Jeanette was born January 6, 1924 the daughter of Martin and Hedwig (Jaskowiak) Szepanski. She graduated from St. Charles High School, class of 1942. Jeanette was united in marriage to the late Gene E. Hummel in 1947; He preceded her in death in 1986. She later was united in marriage to the late Donald Susalla in 1995; he preceded her in death in 2016. Jeanette was employed by several real estate agencies as a Realtor for over 30 years; retiring in the 1970’s. She was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Jeanette enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing, traveling and playing card.

Jeanette is survived by her three children and their spouses; Gene A. (Carol) Hummel, Raymond W. (Maureen) Hummel and Janice Richter, eleven grandchildren; Lori Hummel, Richard (Jen) Hummel, Brent (WenLyn) Richter, Brian (Lori) Richter, Matthew (Heather) Richter, Kathryn (Steve) Warnke, Gregory (Kelly) Hummel, Jeffrey (Kaitlin) Hummel, Alexander (Marjorie) Hummel, Kelly (Ryan) Anholt, Carrie (Ricardo) Sanchez and David (Rachel) Knapschaefer, 26 great-grandchildren; sister; Leocadia Tithof, son in-law; Steve Knapschaefer, former daughter in-law; Nancy Hummel, many nieces and nephews and several caretakers; who treated her like family.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; Gene and Donald, daughter, Denise Knapschaefer, grandson, Michael Moesner, brother, Cecil (Helen) Szepanski, son in-law, Donald Mark Richter, stepbrothers, Stanley and Eric, stepsister, Mary and brother in-law; Fred Titof.

FUNERAL: Memorial Mass for Jeanette will take place Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 12:00 PM from Christ the Good Shepherd, St. Helen site, 2445 N. Charles St. Saginaw, MI  48602. Rev. Fr. Baltha Raj Bandaru to officiate. Private inurnment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of mass.
