Obituary of Mary Jo Lutz

Loving mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday Evening, May 10, 2022 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. She was 72 years old. Mary Jo Chasnis was born on August 31, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John and Mary Lou (Collison) Chasnis. She married Gerald H. Lutz on June 9, 1984 at St. John Lutheran - Amelith in Frankenlust. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1997. Mary Jo was employed by Consumers Energy, retiring after 45 years of service. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church – Amelith and the Red Hat Society for many years.
Mary Jo was a diehard NASCAR fan attending races every year as well as going to watch the races at Tri-City Motor Speedway. She loved painting ceramics and giving them as gifts. Mary Jo also enjoyed sewing and quilting. But, what Mary Jo loved above all was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, John (Saleena) Lutz and James Lutz; grandchildren, Jaxson and Harlee; siblings, John (Priscilla) Chasnis, Arthur (Rita) Chasnis, James (Shelly) Chasnis, Paula (Gary) Larson, Robert (Heidi) Chasnis, Peggy Chasnis, Andrew Chasnis, William (Cheryl) Chasnis, and Phyllis (Rick) Meeth; brother in-law Junior Lutz; her cat, Peanut and several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her sister in-law, Betty Lutz.
FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church - Amelith, 1664 Amelith Road, Bay City, MI 48706. Pastor Kurt Eichinger will officiate. Committal service to follow at St. John Lutheran – Amelith Cemetery.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the wishes of the family c/o John Lutz.
