Obituary of Geraldine Ann Gombar
Geraldine Ann “Gerri” Gombar, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 4, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Geraldine Ann Meyette was born November 15, 1936 in Pinconning, MI to the late Laurence and Theresa (Gibson) Meyette. She married the love of her life, Benjamin William Gombar, on July 14, 1962. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2020. Gerri was a lifelong educator, she began her teaching career in a one room school house and finished her career as the Director of Religious Education at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was a devoted catholic, faithfully holding her family in her prayers and attending SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for over 60 years. Gerri loved spending time with family and friends at her home or her cabin in Gaylord, playing cards and stopping at the casino. In her quiet time, she could be found with a Mary Higgins Clark book in her hands.
Gerri dedicated her life to raising her eight children. She will be deeply missed by her children and their spouses: Ben (Linda) Gombar, Joe (Dawn) Gombar, Mike (Trudi) Gombar, Chris Gombar, Mark (Michelle) Gombar, Mary (Tim) Albers, David (Melissa) Gombar, and Tom (Tammy) Gombar; 17 grandchildren: Ashley (Chris), Sarah (Kyle), Ellen (Kyle), Ryan (Melissa), Tim (Becky), Kody, Jadon, Denise, Matthew, Katerina, Rebecca, Sabrina, Andrew, Jacob, David (Amanda), Victoria and Brewer; four great-grandchildren: Fletcher and Finnley, Eliza, Addison; siblings: Marjorie Stempek, Carolyn (Jim) Moore, Diane (Tom) Karbowski, Louie (Karen) Meyette, Rich (Betty) Meyette; and sister-in-law, Cindy Meyette.
Gerri was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben; her brothers: James Meyette and Roger Meyette; and brother-in-law, Donald Stempek.
Gerri’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Bayside Home Care and New Hope Valley Assisted Living for their kindness and compassion.
SERVICE: A funeral liturgy for Gerri will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at St. Dominic Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48638. Rev. Fr. Jack Johnson will officiate. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Standish at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Gerri will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider a donation to St. Dominic Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home.
