Passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 5, 2022 at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, surrounded by her family. She was 83 years old. Betty Joan Elliott was born February 28, 1938 in Elkton, Michigan to the late Henry and Cuba (Stinson) Elliott. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1956. She married Gerald E. Leach in December of 1956. Joan was blessed with three sons, and raised her family in the Elkton and Saginaw area. She worked as a hairstylist for a few years and also worked at the Huron County Courthouse.  Joan spent the last few years at Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland where she was well cared for by staff and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are her sons: Hugh J. Leach, Michael (Renee) Leach and Scott J. (Michelle) Elliott; grandchildren: Jaclyn Leach, Kayla Chambers, James (Lisa) Mendoza, Nicole (Dan) Lincoln, Mariah (Aaron Gonzalez) Elliott and Sarah Joan Elliott; great-grandchildren: Theodore “Theo” Lincoln and Addisyn Mendoza; brother, Albert “Jack” (Kay) Elliott and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings: Henry “Dick” (Martha) Elliott and Sally (Andrew) McIntyre.

Joan’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff in the CVCU unit at Covenant Healthcare, especially Physicians Assistant Shelly Bowerman, for their compassionate care provided throughout her last days.

According to Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date, and she will be buried at Chandler Church Cemetery in Elkton, Michigan.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw County Humane Society.
