Obituary of Betty M. Dent

Betty Marion Dent, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, formerly from Saginaw, Michigan, and Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She had just celebrated her 100^th birthday four days prior.

Betty was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on November 2, 1921. She lived in Michigan most of her life and moved to Mount Juliet, Tennessee, in 2001.

She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1939 and worked as a bookkeeper until retirement. She and her husband, Jay, spent winters in Bradenton, Fl., and summers at their Sanford Lake home in Michigan. They were avid square and round dancers, enjoyed traveling the world together as well as boating and camping all over Michigan.  As a younger girl she enjoyed playing tennis and ice skating, and all through her life sang alto in several church choirs as well as groups. She was a sharp card player and also enjoyed bridge on her computer. After moving to Mount Juliet, she was an active member of her Widows Group, Greenhill Women’s Club and Celebration Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and five brothers; her husband of 60 years, Jay Dent; and one son, Jim (Judy) Dent of Canton, Michigan. Survivors include her daughter, Pat (Howard) Mettee of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; grandchildren: Steve (Maggie) Burk, Susan (Tony) Zikovich, John (Nellann) Mettee, all of Tennessee, and Matt (Adrienne) Dent, Stacy Bender, Christy (John) Rose, all from Michigan. She has 12 great-grandchildren: Hallie, Katie, Anna, Ryan, Jack, Ben, Tonya, Cody, Erin, Alyssa, Reagan and Nolan; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) in Saginaw. Her son-in-law, Rev. J. Howard Mettee, will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
