Obituary of Marta Jo Rubcich
Rubcich, Marta Jo
1962 – 2021
Marta Jo Rubcich, 59, of Saginaw, MI passed away May 3rd peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Marta was born in Wheeling, WV on January 2, 1962 to the late Adolph S. and Martha Lee (Flading) Rubcich. The family moved to Shadyside, where she attended high school and excelled at basketball and softball. At the end of her junior year, the Shadyside faculty presented Marta with a book entitled I Dare You! by William Danforth. The book had a profound impact on her life as Marta took the message of challenging herself and becoming a leader into all her pursuits, both professionally and personally.
Marta received a full academic scholarship to Bowling Green State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS Accounting. She earned her Masters in Accountancy and Financial Information Systems from Cleveland State University. In 1999 she established the Marta Rubcich Endowed Scholarship for students in the BGSU College of Business. During the summer before her senior year in college, she did an internship with Dow Chemical Company. That internship lead to a wonderful 35-year career with Dow that took Marta all over the world. She loved to travel, and visited six continents and 30 countries over the course of her career, whether it was for business or pleasure. She lived in Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia, but she thoroughly enjoyed living in Shanghai, China for three plus years. For the last nine years of her career, she worked in Mergers and Acquisitions, leading the finance team – a role she thoroughly enjoyed. This led to her greatest single achievement in her career: being on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange the day Dow completed its spin-off from Dow Dupont.
After college Marta became a nationally-ranked racket ball player and traveled the US playing in numerous national tournaments. In addition to racket ball, she also enjoyed golf, bicycling, and kayaking among her many interests. Through work and her travels, Marta made many friendships too numerous to count. Over the past two years she was also able to re-connect with many friends from high school and college which really meant a lot to her. After her retirement from Dow in June 2019, Marta had planned to build a house on a lake, invest her time volunteering, and continue to travel the world. Marta Jo is survived by her sister Leslie, brother Dave (Cyndi), and her niece (Murphy) and nephew (Cristian) whom she loved and adored. They will forever remember the various trips they went on with their Aunt, including visits to Paris and London, Mammoth Caves, Gettysburg and going to see Hamilton on Broadway.
