Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at his home in Saginaw surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. William Beird was born in Saginaw on March 8, 1938 to the late Owens Edward and Donella (Henry) Beird. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1956 and later from the University of Michigan in 1960 with his Bachelor’s Degree. He proudly served his country with the United States Army for four years of active duty, followed by an additional 10 years in the Army Reserves in Saginaw.  Bill married Mary Ann Pfundt on June 18, 1960 in Bay City, Michigan; she survives him. Bill worked at his father’s insurance business (O.E. Beird Insurance Agency) until his own advancement to President and sole owner. He retired from the family business (later called Safeguard Insurance) in January 2017. Bill received great joy from his career, caring for his family and spending time with them at Torch Lake. Bill’s free time was spent doing photography, woodworking, listening to classical music and U of M football, and growing orchids.

William is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; two sons: Thomas (Lisa) Beird of Saginaw and their children, Tucker and Ryenne Beird; Jeffrey (Anna) Beird of Holland and their children, Josey, Eliza, and Owen Beird; and sister, Trudy (Robert) Grimmer of Frisco, TX.

GATHERING: Bill’s family and friends will gather at Baynes Apple Valley, 5395 Midland Rd, Freeland, MI 48623,  on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memories will be shared by the family at 7:00 p.m. Military honors will follow the sharing under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439.  Masks and social distancing guidelines will be in effect.
