Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LOESSEL, John Leo II “Jackie”
Saginaw Township, Michigan
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend passed away peacefully at his home, after a courageous hard fought battle with cancer, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. John Leo Loessel II, was born on July 25, 1948 in Saginaw to the late John E. and Barbara Jane (Sprunger) Loessel. John graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School in 1966. On June 23, 1972 he married the love of his life Mary Christine Sullivan at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, and they shared almost 49 years of marriage together. John’s greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, raising six children together, and sharing in the blessings of grandchildren. Family was the most important to John and Mary, and they taught their children to live a simple life as a caring very close knit family, who took care of each other and others.
John shared a love of music that he passed on to all of his children. His favorite artist was Elton John. During his time of illness, John was able to see Elton John in concert and treasured sharing that memory with Mary. John also shared a love of basketball. He coached basketball for many years including St. Thomas Aquinas, and AAU teams throughout Saginaw with his daughter, Colleen.
John is survived by his wife, Mary C. Loessel; six children and their spouses, Melissa (Bruce) Freshcorn, Jennifer (Sean) Ryan, Colleen (Jeff) Konieczka, Kathryn (Scott) Csutora, Kerry (Gregory) Kusowski and John Leo (Megan) Loessel III; grandchildren: Hailey Freshcorn, Caitlyn and Brady Ryan, Aubrie Konieczka, Ethan and Chase Csutora, John William Loessel and Arianna Loessel who is expected in May of 2021; brother, David B. Loessel; sister, Susan Kay Loessel and Timothy Barrigar; mother-in-law, Theodora (Teddy) Sullivan. John is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Loessel; father-in-law, John Sullivan Jr.; nephews: Nicholas Trombley and Blair Loessel.
John’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, to all the nurses, and staff on the fourth floor at Acension St. Mary’s Hospital. They went above and beyond to help John and gave us so much emotional support. His many doctors were truly amazing. We were also very grateful for the compassionate care provided to our family by Compassus Hospice. We also would thank family and friends for the many prayers.
