SCHMIDT, Mildred "Millie" E. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Covenant Care-Cooper, surrounded by her family. She was 94 years old. Mildred E. Kocks was born on December 13, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William, Sr. and Catherine (Neuhaus) Kocks. She married Harry J. Schmidt on February 10, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan; he preceded her in death on November 8, 1996. Mildred worked for J.C. Penney as a sales associate. She was a charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, camping, bowling, Bingo, and cheering on her Tiger's baseball team. Surviving is a daughter, Judith Schmerling; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, William Kocks, Jr.; sister, Kathleen Sisk; brother-in-law, Robert (Olive) Schmidt. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Harry; son, Richard Gross; great-grandson, Jacob Miller; three brothers, Robert, Donald, and John; two sisters, Mary Margaret Brooks and Geraldine Skulley; and son-in-law, Fred Schmerling. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Covenant Care-Cooper 7th Floor Intensive Care Nursing Unit for their expert care and compassion. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. James G. Heller will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mildred will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163 or Jacob Miller Scholarship Fund.
