ARMSTRONG, Oscar "Mel", of Saginaw Township, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Covenant Health Care - Harrison, with his family at his side. He was 82 years old. Oscar M. Armstrong was born on October 3, 1930 in Toronto, Canada to the late Samuel Francis Armstrong and Stella (Ingledew). He married Elizabeth Morgan on December 30, 1961 in Canada. She preceded him in death on November 9. 2009. Prior to moving to the United States, Mel worked as a schoolteacher in Canada, teaching 4th through 6th grade. He was also employed General Motors for 22 years retiring March 1, 1993 as a Metallurgist. He also worked for Dow Chemical Company in Logistics. Mel enjoyed traveling with his wife Elizabeth to Bradenton, Florida for the winter. He was a voracious reader with an inquisitive mind. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Armstrong-Hochhalter, two grandsons: Brenden Oscar Armstrong and Kenneth Scott Hochhalter; one great grandson, Keiron Armstrong; a brother, Les Armstrong. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Ronald Armstrong, and a sister, Irene Matthews, preceded him in death. FUNERAL: Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off state). Rev. Fr. David L. Parsch will officiate. Entombment will take place at Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton, FL VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home Friday, February 1 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
