Obituary of Barbara Joan Wegner

WEGNER, Barbara Joan of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at her home. Barbara Joan Allen was born on January 28, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Richard F. and Eleanor M. (Ferrelli) Allen. She was a graduate of Carrollton High School. Following graduation Barbara earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Saginaw Valley State University. Barbara was employed by the Saginaw Public Schools, teaching at various elementary schools throughout her career, most recently teaching at Kempton Elementary School; retiring in 2005. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association and St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Barbra was proud of being a breast cancer survivor and would often volunteer at Covenant North working in their Oncology Unit.
Surviving are a son and a daughter: Dan (Mary) Wegner of Freeland, Michelle (Matt) Derleth of Medina, Tennessee; four granddaughters: Madison and Larkin Wegner, and Hannah and Karleigh Derleth; a sister, Rita Tafoya of Saginaw and a brother, Richard (Rosemary) Allen II of Florida; she is also survived by a very special aunt, Frances Tetloff of Saginaw.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Kostick.
FUNERAL: Barbara's Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with Barbara's family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (Off State) on Friday, March 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Barbara will lie in state at the church on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Cancer Research Center, St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home, church or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.
