Obituary of Donald William Trew

TREW, Donald William of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on December 7, 2012 at his home. Age 94 years. Donald William Trew was born on September 4, 1918 in Saginaw to the late James W. and Susan B. (Winiecke) Trew. He married Elaine Elizabeth Wuelpern on January 23, 1947 in Saginaw; she preceded him in death on July 27, 2012. Don graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1937. He received his engineering education at the Amour Institute in Chicago, Illinois. He also studied at M.S.U and M.I.T. He worked for several consulting firms. After serving in the United States Air Force ordinance during WWII, he joined the engineering department at Baker Perkins. He became Chief Industrial Engineer and held this job for 25 years. He then became the manager of the Special Products Division. In 1980, he formed an engineering company and worked until he was 82 years old. His work led him to several countries and extensive travel in the United States. He was a senior member of the American Institute of the Industrial Engineers, a life member of the D.A.V., the American Legion, and the Germania Club. He was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge #77, a member of the A.A.R.P, a member of the Saginaw Township Zoning Commission for 8 years, president of the Saginaw Downtown Lion's Club, and an active member of several other self improvement groups including, Toastmaster's Club and the Red Cross Blood Drive. Left to cherish Don's memory are his two children, James William Trew of Saginaw, MI and Beverly Anne Trew Palmer of South Bend, IN, who married Lewis A. Palmer; four grandchildren, Anne Petersen of Mishawaka, IN, Brian Petersen of Goshen, IN, Jason Trew of Saginaw, MI, and Kristin Trew of Lansing, MI; one great-grandson, Eric Frickson of Mishawaka, IN; and one sister, Berde Weber of IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; one sister, Gloria VanSickle and two brothers, Robert Trew and Glenn Trew.
BURIAL: Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Cremated remains will be buried 11:00 am Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Roselawn Cemetery. Rev. Michael Hahn will officiate. Graveside military honors will take place under the auspices of the American Legion Post #439.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4432 Mackinaw, Saginaw MI 48603.
