Obituary of Lawrence C. Hazen

Hazen Dr. Lawrence. of Saginaw, Michigan. Died on Monday, Dec. 3rd, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was 69 years old. Lawrence C. Hazen was born on April 5, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Carman and Chrystal (Easley) Hazen. He married Christine L. Scorsone on August 7, 1965 in Saginaw. Larry graduated from Arthur Hill High School, class of 1961 and Central Michigan University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 1969 he graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. Larry served a one-year internship at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital and a three-year residency in Ophthalmology in Florida. Larry returned to Saginaw in 1973 and began his practice of 40 years. In 1995 he opened Andersen Eye Associates and in 2006 he opened the Andersen Surgery Center. He was a past President and Fellow of the American College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He was a member of Saginaw County Osteopathic Association, and practiced on the staff of Saginaw Osteopathic, Saginaw General, St. Mary's and Covenant Hospitals. In 1998 he created Saginaw Area Foundation for Eye Care, which provides eye exams, glasses and necessary surgical procedures, for the under insured. It was a great passion of his life to provide access to quality eye care for those who could not otherwise afford it. Throughout his life Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman, traveling to Africa, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Alaska, British Columbia, Quebec, Newfoundland, and the Western United States in pursuit of his hobby. Surviving are his wife, Christine; a son, Gregory (Natalie) Hazen M.D., of Freeland, a daughter, Elizabeth Hazen, of Saginaw, five grandchildren: Grant, Riley and Carter Hazen, Phoebe and Brendan Trier, a brother, Ronald (Dorothy) Hazen M.D., of Saginaw, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce and Karyl Scorsone, of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL- A Memorial Service honoring Dr. Hazen will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Dr. Robert Emrich will officiate. In accordance with Larry's wishes cremation has taken place. VISITATION- Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Service.
