SCHABEL, Betty J. of Saginaw, Our beloved mother passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Saginaw Geriatrics Home surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. Betty Nowak was born on September 4, 1929 in Saginaw to the late Anthony and Gertrude (Myczkowiak) Nowak. She married Donald Schabel on May 6, 1950 in Saginaw and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1996. Betty was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church, past President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Saginaw Elks Club BPOE #47, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pulaski Club. Betty is survived by her five daughters: Cherie (John) Donnelly Riordan of Treasure Island, FL, Susan Furlo of Saginaw, Elizabeth (Gerald) Schmidt of Knoxville, TN, Patricia (James) Kelly, and Jennifer Temple, all of Saginaw; nine grandchildren: Karis Hertzberg and Keely (Burt) Wells all of Florida, Carmen Furlo of Saginaw, Ralph Furlo, III of New York, Scott (Angela) Schmidt and Nicole Schmidt all of Tennessee, Corey (Brian) Stephan, Molly (Robert) Montalbano, and Mitchell Temple Jr. all of Saginaw; three great grandchildren: Hanna Hertzberg, Riley Wells and Drew Stephan; two brothers: Thomas (Barb) Nowak of Saginaw and James Nowak of Davison; and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters and a brother preceded Betty in death: Genevieve Lagalo, Anna Royce Csutora and Raymond Nowak. FUNERAL: Betty's funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Helen Catholic Church; 2445 N. Charles St. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel. Betty will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. MEMORIALS: A memorial donation may be made to the Loan Assistance Program (L.A.P.) and in lieu of flowers Betty's wishes were that you would take a friend to lunch.
