Obituary of Raymond W. Metiva

METIVA, Raymond W. passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old. Raymond W. Metiva was born on August 31, 1939 in Saginaw to the late Eli and Ella (Detloff) Metiva. He married Joyce Ann Featheringill on May 25, 1968 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Tawas. She survives him. He had been employed by the American Red Cross as a donation coordinator and with the Saginaw Public Schools as a bus driver and custodian and retiring in 2001 as a delivery truck driver. Ray was a proud member of the Zilwaukee Fire Department. He served the department for 20 years before retiring in 1983 as a lieutenant. Ray also enjoyed sitting at the Saginaw River, spending time with many dear friends. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; children: Mary (Laurence) Roth of Woodbridge, VA, Jeffrey (Angela) Metiva of Zilwaukee, and Kelly (Stephen) Jacob of Saginaw; one grandson, Laurence; a sister, Ellen (James) Scanlon of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL MASS: According to Ray's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 511 W. Cornell St. Rev. Fr. Ronald J. Dombrowski will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., (off State) from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In honor of Ray, the Zilwaukee Fire Department will conduct a fireman walk-through on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will immediate follow under the direction of Sr. Janet Pewoski, CSJ. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
