HAMMOND, Sharon (Melick) of Saginaw passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. She was 68 years old. Sharon was born June 20, 1942 in Saginaw to the late Wallace P. and Ione W. (Wing) Melick. Sharon married John Hammond on January 16, 1967 he preceded her in death. Sharon was a graduate of Saginaw High School and then furthered her education at Saginaw Valley State College receiving her Bachelors of Science Degree in social work. She worked for a Perfect Place, the Red Cross and Ross Medical. Sharon was a member of First Christian Church West. She also was former President of Tri-County National Federation of the Blind, Saginaw Social Workers Club and the Saginaw Blind Bowlers Club. She is survived by her sons: Randy Crawford and Ron (Denise) Crawford; step-daughters: Debbie (George) Roditcher Hugel, Julie Hammond, Wendy Hammond and Mary (Ron) Tunney; grandchildren: Roxanne, Jeremy (Sally) and Joshua Crawford, Andrew, Laryssa and Lucas Crawford; step grandchildren: Nick Roditcher, Morgan and Sophia Hugel; a great grandson, Duncan Crawford; sisters: Linda (George) Pavlicek and Dawn (John) Seivert; brothers: William "Bill" (Joy) Melick and Wallace "Jim" (Josie) Melick; and her former husband, Gerald Crawford. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, John Hammond, an infant daughter, Cindy Crawford, and her leader dog, Spike. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Sharon will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Jean O'Brien will officiate with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends may visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to National Federation of the Blind, Multiple Sclerosis or Leader Dogs of Rochester, MI.
