Obituary of William "Bully" DiMercurio

DiMERCURIO, William "Dee" "Bully" of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare - Cooper with his family at his side. He was 91 years old. William DiMercurio was born on December 30, 1920 in Saginaw to the late Salvatore and Providenzia (Lograsso) DiMercurio. He married Frances Lograsso on September 6, 1947 in San Diego, California. She survives him. Bill was a member of Ss. Simon & Jude Catholic Church and a former member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. As a young man he enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, but he loved and was especially proud of his work. Bill was a self-employed huckster. When he was just 14 years old he began traveling by horse and wagon, selling vegetables door to door throughout the Tri-Cities, Flint and many small towns in-between. It was long before he was able to expand with a bus that he turned into a fruit stand on wheels. Bill later opened a stand at Stan's Locksmith Shop that he ran until 2008; retiring at age 88 years old. He often said that he had "three loves: his job, poker, and his wife". Bill will be remembered for his excellent communication skills and his ability to make friends wherever he went. Surviving are his wife, Frances; two daughters: Prudence (Donald) Waugh of Saginaw, Rose DiMercurio of Saginaw; a son, Lawrence DiMercurio of Saginaw; four grandchildren: James (April) Waugh, Marc Owens, Francine Owens, Lawrence DiMercurio; five great-grandchildren: Preston, Carter and Landon Waugh, Roselynn and Nicholas Owens; a brother, John DiMercurio of Florida; three sisters: Grace Fircano of Boston, MA, Catherine Mohr of Saginaw, Rose (Al) Klemkwicz of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by a son, Sam DiMercurio; a brother, Joseph DiMercurio; two sisters: Frances DiMercurio and Ann Ahola. FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Ss. Simon & Jude Catholic Church, 2395 S. Outer Drive. Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS will officiate. Rite of Committal and Military Honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 439 will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION - Friends may call at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. A Vigil service will take place on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. William will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy.
