TORREZ, Carlos, Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 04, 2012 at his home, with his family at his side. He was 63 years old. Carlos Torrez, Jr. was born on October 21, 1948 in Gideon, Missouri to the late Carlos and Josefa (Pruneda) Torrez. He married Maria M. Flores on March 31, 1978 in Crystal City, Texas; she survives him. He was raised in Crystal City, Texas and graduated from Crystal City High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation he attended Uvalde Junior College where he studied auto mechanics. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he received two purple hearts and a bronze star. He then began to work for General Motors, serving 38 1/2 years, retiring in 2006. Carlos loved working in the yard, enjoyed riding and working on his street rod. He was a faithful volunteer at his church, and also enjoyed reading, listening to music and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his loving wife, Maria; one daughter, Felina Torrez of Saginaw, three brothers: Ramiro (Angela) Torrez, Saginaw, David (Angie) Torres, Carrizo Springs, Texas, Johnny Torres, Irving, Texas, four sisters; Amelia Cisneros, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Herlinda (Willie) Santos, Crystal City, Texas, Janie Martinez, Baytown, Texas, Mary Alice Rendon, Crystal City, Texas. Eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Josefina, Cornelio, Osvaldo, Lesbia, Jose Maria, Santa, Guadalupe, Beatrize, all of Texas; a special aunt, Mary T. Hernandez. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Carlos was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Torres; a sister, Diana Torres; a brother-in-law, Jesus Flores, father and mother-in-law; Crispin and Isabel Flores. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for Carlos will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris OFMCap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. MILITARY: Military Services will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off state) on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Carlos will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
