Obituary of Calvin J. Peterson

Peterson, Calvin J. "Pete" Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friends passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare - Harrison. He was 87 years old. Calvin Jon Peterson was born on April 9, 1933 in Edmore, Michigan to the late Robert and Thelma Peterson. Calvin grew up on the family dairy farm in Edmore and he graduated from Edmore High School. He was then drafted in the United States Army, and proudly served his country as a radio operator. Following his service he returned to Edmore to work at the family elevator and lumber yard. Calvin started working for General Motors-Malleable Iron and moved to Saginaw, where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou. He married Mary Lou LaVigne in May of 1963, and they raised their family in Saginaw. Calvin worked for General Motors for over 30 years, and during his retirement he loved to garden, hunt, fish, golf, going to the horse races and keeping an immaculate yard. Calvin is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; children: Karen Cooley, Ralph (Patricia) Brandi and Chris (Hannah) Peterson; grandchildren: Jacob (Diana Jackson) Cooley, Erica Brandi, Samantha Brandi, James Brandi, Noah (Madison White) Peterson and Hunter Peterson; great granddaughter, Harper Jordan Peterson; and another great grandson due in May of 2021; brother, Lee Robert Peterson; niece, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Calvin was preceded in death by parents; sister, Mary Wilcox; sister-in-law, Janet Peterson; and a nephew, Bill Peterson. FUNERAL: A Private funeral service for Calvin will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State), Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp S.J. will officiate. Burial and military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Hemlock under the auspices of the U.S. Army.
